Royal Dutch Shell is still a long way off its goal of capturing 2 billion cubic feet per day of associated gas in southern Iraq that is mostly now flared, but its Basrah Gas Co. (BGC) joint venture is making some progress. The venture, in which it partners Iraqi state South Gas Co. and Japan's Mitsubishi, has increased its gas processing capacity by 60 million cubic feet per day - meeting the first of two targets announced last month by the office of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Hussein al-Shahristani - with a further 40 MMcf/d to be added in the coming weeks. Since Iraq already had 150 MMcf/d of processing capacity, that will boost capacity to 250 MMcf/d.
