US month-ahead prices for August got a last-minute boost in late July,setting base-load gas prices in the major eastern North American markets higher than many had anticipated.August gas futures jumped 160 last Friday,as a very oversold contract was caught up in a wave of short-covering,rolling off the board at 6.11 per million Btu (WGI M.4,p6).
