Will the record low temperatures and record high snowfalls reported late last week in Japan,South Korea and other parts of Asia be followed by aggressive spot LNG purchasing drives by utilities from these countries, leaving supplies all the tighter in the Atlantic Basin? Traders in the West are convinced it will(pi).Buyers with some of those big utilities counter that this isn't necessarily so.They concede that utilities in Japan and South Korea do aim to buy at least five-six spot LNG cargoes this winter to cope with the extra demand resulting from record low temperatures, however, and with demand also potentially brisk from some smaller regional Japanese players, this may yet prove conservative.
