European companies seem much more in favor of Russian pipelines designed to bypass Ukraine than the European Commission, judging by reaction to Gazprom's proposed Nord Stream-2 pipeline under the Baltic (WGI Jun.24'15). Royal Dutch Shell, Germany's E.On and Austria's OMV agreed to partner Gazprom in June, and the Russian gas giant said last week that France's Engie (formerly GDF Suez) is ready to begin negotiations, while Germany's Wintershall tells WGI it is already in talks. More firms could follow before a project company is established in September, insiders say.
