The combination of more bountiful domestic gas and ample global LNG supply is giving New Delhi and Petronet LNG the confidence to be both more expansive and more discriminating in their long-term international gas purchasing strategies. This shift is evident in the lesser Gorgon LNG volumes Petronet has signed up for from Exxon Mobil as it eyes more spot purchasing, in its talks with multiple Papua New Guinea LNG projects, and in the government's belated acceptance of China's victory in the struggle for gas found offshore Myanmar by a consortium in which state Oil & Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) and Gail India hold a combined 30%.
