Initial agreement last week by French Total and Japan's Inpex to supply up to 1.5 million tons per year of LNG from the Bontang plant to a terminal to be built by Indonesian state companies on West Java could help clear the way for renewal of the contract under which 12 million tons/yr of LNG is supplied to Japan — albeit at much reduced volumes of perhaps 3 million tons/yr.
