Anemic storage withdrawals are being reported on both sides of the Atlantic, and in North America are piling more downward pressure on natural gas prices. Stocks in the US fell just 64 billion cubic feet to 3.295 trillion cubic feet (933 billion cubic meters) in the week to Dec. 12, and in the EU inched down 0.4% to 66.5 Bern on Dec. 21. In the US, the relatively small withdrawal weighed heavily on natural gas futures as it was about a fourth the size of last year's 256 Bcf pull, turning the year-on-year deficit into a 6 Bcf surplus. The deficit to the five-year average fell 93 Bcf to 258 Bcf, or 7.3%.
