摘要

Paris-A new French report erects a hurdle in front of the Monsanto Company's efforts to market in Europe two maize grains from plants genetically modified to kill pests. The June 20 report by the French food-safety watchdog, the AFSSA, advises the European Union that a scientifically informed decision on the maize grains' safety could not be made, due to gaps in Monsanto's safety-research data. The report comes amidst continuing hostility to GMOs in Europe, especially in France. The U.S. has threatened to sue Europe through the World Trade Organization over its moratorium on GMO cultivation. The Monsanto grains are both intended for animal feed in Europe, not cultivation.
