The selection for the AAOHN Lillian G. Carter Humanitarian Award must be an individual who epitomizes the characteristics associated with Mrs. Lillian Carter. Her courage, integrity, social awareness, dedication, and compassion endeared her to many, and inspired others to achieve excellence in their own lives. Miss Lillian chose to use her nursing education and abilities in humanitarian endeavors to positively impact the health and welfare of lives in her community and worldwide. Those attributes accurately describe the 2012 award recipient. It is with great pride that AAOHN announces Joy E. Wachs as the 2012 AAOHN Lillian G. Carter Humanitarian Award recipient. The following is the applicant letter submitted by Joy E. Wachs in response to her nomination for the 2012 AAOHN Lillian G. Carter Humanitarian Award.
