The Dunes Sagebrush Lizard...again

After months of study and survey in areas of West Texas and soutfieastern New Mexico, opponents of the proposed endangered species listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard have won a small battle in their war with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).In the December 5, 2011 issue of the Federal Register, the Fish and Wildlife Service announced a six-month extension of the final determination of whether to list the dunes sagebrush lizard as endangered. Agency officials have delayed the proposed listing due to concerns expressed by the public, landowners and industries working in the affected areas that the agency's data on the lizard and its habitat was not accurate.
