The editorial feature of five years ago (June 2001 Mushroom Journal) is still topical today. It raised the question of automation in the face of a rising tide of low cost Eastern European production. The same edition contained an article by John Readof Silsoe Research Centre entitled 'An automatic System for harvesting mushrooms' in which he claimed that solutions had been found for all technical problems associated with harvesting A.bis-porus.
