In the remorseless business of producing and marketing mushrooms one is, for most part, preoccupied with the myriad problems of the day. The major concerns, the fundamental problems, are often, thankfully, crowded out by day to day difficulties that need to be overcome to keep the complex machine running and which demand constant attention. If one steps back a pace or two, however, the underlying, major problems that face us, soon emerge. The nature of these problems needs little further explanation, they have been worried and gnawed at, ad nauseam. That, unfortunately, does not remove the need to continue to do so. It has to be worthwhile to repeatedly examine the situation in the hope of gaining some insight into what still has to be done, even inthe knowledge that most debate will be judged banal, naive or worse. In an attempt to pluck out any one vaguely relevant thing in such a highly complex situation one is forced to be somewhat simple-minded and to risk being construed as patronising. However..... why let that be a problem?
