PRESENTED AT the Essen Motor Show on Thursday November 30 were both saloon and estate versions of the new high-performance Passat R36. Developed by Volkswagen's Individual GmbH tuning and styling division, the new model was revealed to members of the world's press by managing director Reiner Mangold. Powered by a new 3.6-litre V6 FSI engine developing 30 PS (220 kW) and mated to a six-speed DSG transmission, the R36 uses the Volkswagen 4MOTION Haldex coupling four-wheel drive system and features a range of interior and exterior styling parts to confirm its high-performance capability.
