What is your diagnosis? Blood film from an icteric cat

An EDTA-anticoagulated blood sample from a 1-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat was submitted to the clinical pathology laboratory at Oklahoma State University (Antech Diagnostics, Stillwater, OK, USA) for evaluation of erythroparasites. The cat had been presented to the referring veterinarian in southwestern Missouri with a history of acute inability to rise. Physical examination revealed a markedly lethargic, icteric cat with a temperature of 100.6°F (38.1°C), heart rate of 160 bpm, and shallow respiration. According to the owner the cat had eaten well the previous day and appeared healthy. Results of an in-clinic test for feline immunodeficiency virus antibody and feline leukemia virus antigen (IDEXX Laboratories, Westbrook, ME, USA) were negative. Abnormalities identified on an in-clinic CBC (QBC, IDEXX Laboratories) included leukopenia (2000/μL, reference interval 5000–19,000/μL) with decreased granulocytes (1400/μL, reference interval 2500–12,500/μL), decreased lymphocyte/monocytes (600/μL, reference interval 1500–7800/μL), and thrombocytopenia (90,000/μL, reference interval 175,000–500,000/μL). The HCT was 26% (reference interval 24–45%). At the owner's request, the cat was euthanized before receiving results of the requested blood film evaluation; a necropsy was not performed.
