Two calves were submitted to Limerick from a herd with a history of respiratory signs ante mortem, both of which had been bought into the herd. Post mortem examination of one of them revealed parasitic pneumonia with many lungworms in the trachea andbronchial tree. Post mortem examination of the second calf, however, revealed mannheimosis; gross and histopathological changes encountered in this case were indicative of bronchopneumonia while isolation of Mannheima haemolytica from lung tissue confirmed the diagnosis. Limerick and Athlone reported several cases of parasitic pneumonia in October. In one such case, Athlone diagnosed parasitic pneumonia in a six-month-old weanling which was found dead. In a separate case Athlone found a significant burden of lungworms on post mortem examination of an eight-month-old heifer, suppurative bronchopneumonia was also present in this case and Pasteurella multocida was isolated from the lesion. The stress of lungworm infection may have predisposed to the secondary bacterial infection. Kilkenny reported that a six-month-old weanling was submitted with a history of poor thrive, and similar clinical symptoms were reported in other cattle from the same group. Post mortem examination revealed cranio-ventral pulmonary consolidation with frank pus evident in the airways; fibrinosuppurative bronchopneumonia was encountered on histopathology and Pasteurella multocida was isolated from lungs.
