One out of every five canine patients that present to a companion animal veterinary clinic is a dermatology case, and many of these are pruritic dogs with clinical signs consistent with allergy. Much has been learned about the pathogenesis of allergic disease during the past 25 years. Understanding the pathology underlying the disease is key to designing appropriate treatment regimens individually tailored to patients.
