Peripartum colic in mares

Pregnant and postpartum mares can develop life-threatening colics with overlapping features between specific lesions in the gastrointestinal and genital tracts and normal periparturient events. These cases are a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, with the mare and foal regarded as high-risk patients.
