A call by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for allergy warnings on packaging to be reassessed has been supported by research from Bath and North East Somerset Council, which found varying levels of nut traces in chocolate.The FSA is calling for a nationwide survey of allergy warning labels to determine whether they relate to the actual level of allergen present in processed foods. It is also checking how different statements, such as 'may contain nuts' or 'not suitable for someone with a nut allergy', are used by consumers to assess the levels of risk.
