摘要

This paper studies the fundamentals of magnetic fluid seals in a firenew way, based on the surface tension between liquid and solid. A relationship between the sealing capacity of magnetic fluid seals and surface tension is obtained by the theoretic analysis and practical test. In this new assumption, which consider the force of magnetic field as the additional Van der Wals force, a new conception for the magnetic surf ace tension is proposed. This is the basic work to study the sealing capacity of magnetic fluid seals.
