Learning how to help colleagues when emotions and logic collide

Did you know that there are connections between the veterinary profession and social work? No? Neither did I, until fairly recently. We enter veterinary medicine because of our love for animals, but often find that some of our greatest challenges come from interactions with human beings. While veterinarians and our teams are naturally empathetic, we are not trained in specific counseling techniques for people—our skills are aimed at understanding and healing animals.
