Westernport Bay, seventy kilometres south-east of Melbourne, can produce some great fishing variety and some great table fare too, as Michael Hoogzard reports. It was a typical Victorian autumn day, mild and warm. After launching the boat and motoringfor about ten minutes the GPS system went off as we approached my mark. After allowing the current to position the boat over the reef drop off we began to berley. We then set up the rods with running sinker rigs with baits of fresh salmon fillets alongwith the usual pilchards and squid. It wasn't long before a rod bent double and line slowly began to peel from the reel. Was it a Snapper? Gummy shark? Elephant shark? Or maybe it was a gumboot capture such as a Banjo shark or Draughtboard shark!
