But, which motor best suits your purposes if you are after a 30hp? This was the question we tried to answer in an extensive on-water test of 10 popular 30hp motors. Outboards around 30hp have been around since the late 1920s. The Elto Quad in 1928 was the world's first four-cylinder outboard and was sold as a 30hp engine. It was a truly groundbreaking motor! In 1929, OMC offered a four-cylinder 35hp under the three brand names of Evinrude, Elto and Lockwood.
