摘要

On November 6th, John H. Walker, company president and CEO of Weirton Steel, testified before the sixmember US International Trade Commission (ITC) as part of its three days of Section 201 remedy hearings on steel imports. The ITC's investigation of steel imports was prompted by President Bush and the U.S. Senate Finance Committee seeking a probe through Section 201 of the Fair Trade Act of 1974. Earlier in 2001 it determined that imports of 16 types of steel products had seriously harmed domestic U.S. producers, one of those categories being flat rolled steel products, which includes hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized and tin mill products (TMP).Walker was seeking a tariff of 50 percent of the value of such products for a four-year period, the maximum for each under federal statute.
