Big players smooth the way for new graduates

New graduates will always be the lifeblood of the veterinary profession. But the widening disconnect between the expectations of young vets and the realities of working in practice is causing growing concern.ACCORDING TO A survey of graduates carried out on behalf of the RCVS in 2013, 40 per cent of new graduates who had left their first job did so within just three months. The most commonly cited reason was a lack of support given by employers or professional colleagues.At the time, these findings prompted some serious soul searching in veterinary political circles, with former RCVS president Jacqui Molyneux proclaiming the issue to be "an area we, as a profession, must address".
