Those stumbling across this article will fall into one of three groups. The first will see the Author's photograph or name, spit out an expletive and flick contemptuously to the next article. The second group on recognizing the Author will smile wryly, skim the article, pause and think for a moment, then smile wryly again before also moving on to the next article. The third and by no means the largest of the groups, will actually read the article. They should note that although the Author believes a great deal of what he is saying, he has set out to be deliberately controversial in an attempt to stimulate debate. This is something that appears to him to have been sadly lacking in a Professional Institutions Journal for too long -a point he will return to later.
