Auto Strikes Directly Hit Special Steel Bar Sales in July

Amid the protracted economic slump even coupled with labor strike at Hyundai Motor, sales of special steel bars sharply decreased in July compared with the corresponding month of 2002, stretching a downward curve for three months in a row. Particularly, domestic sales of special steel bars fell for the fourth consecutive month, making cloudy the outlook for future demand in the second half. The combined monthly sales performance by 7 domestic special steel bar makers including Kia Steel, INI Steel, Changwon Specialty Steel, in July was tallied at 95,927 tons, down 7.5 percent from the same month of 2002.
