摘要

A new study suggests that occupying a room in an intensive care unit (ICU) occupied previously by a patient with metici I lin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) might increase the odds of acquiring a similar infection."Several previous studies have shown that the environment can be easily contaminated with highly antibiotic-resistant bacteria", said lead investigator Susan S Huang (Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA, USA). "However, whether this contamination actually leads to patient acquisition is not well known. This study is important because it is the first to rigorously quantify the risk of transmitting bacteria from one patient to another because of residual room contamination".
