One of the finest traditions of our profession is resident teaching. It is also the lifeblood of urology, without which our specially will not survive as we know it. However, teaching is under siege in ways that are unique to these times.Academic and community urologists face the same exigency of the need for increased productivity to maintain income. The AUA Gallup Survey reported an increase from 75 to 89.4 office patients (more than 19%) seen weekly by urologists polled from 1995 to 2003.Allowing for a conservative estimate of 15 minutes per patient, this, translates to an increased office workload of 3Mi hours per week, not including the increased surgeries that accrue from an additional 14 patients.
