摘要

In 1956, Mary McFayden Bishop and George Winokur (Bishop and Winokur, 1956) published a seminal article focusing on the role and importance of cross-cultural psychotherapy, reprinted in this issue of the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease. The role of different values and backgrounds between therapists and patients were clearly demarcated within the context of psychotherapy. Needless to say, in the 1950s, the understanding of the role of culture within the field of medicine, especially psychiatry, was not as well as established as it is today (Ruiz, 2011).
