General practitioners in Europe: how to meet the future demands

The European Union of General Practitioners (UEMO) was formed in 1967. It is a non-government organization with delegates from national medical associations and general practitioner organisations. The associations and organisations emanate from 23 countries and through their membership UEMO represents about 500 000 general practitioners in Europe. The Union's areas of interest and aims described in this article are perused through a variety of working groups and a general assembly, which is held twice a year.
