The health of the men in any community is proxy for the health of a community overall. Although one may argue about the importance of formal relationships in 'families' and as a basis for neighborhood and community formation, what cannot be ignored is the economic effect that devastates communities when men cannot work for health reasons, cannot find jobs with health benefits so that they can care for themselves and for their families without threatening the financial stability of the home, or when they simply cannot find work at all.
