Prurigo pigmentosa treated with Jessner's peel and irradiation with an 830-nm light-emitting diode

Prurigo pigmentosa (PP), first described in 1971, is a rare inflammatory dermatitis of unknown etiology.1'2 However, PP is not rare in Korean women aged approximately 20-40 years. It is characterized by exacerbations and remissions, with recurrent eruptions of pruritic erythematous macules and papules that resolve leaving reticulate hyperpigmentation.2^ Because most patients are young women, active management to reduce cosmetic sequelae is important. We describe two young women with PP who were successfully treated with Jessner's peel and irradiation with an 830-nm light-emitting diode (LED).
