Prevalence of Gastrointestinal Nematodes of Goat on Communal Pasture in Madhya Pradesh

Prevalence of gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) larvae was determined on the pasture used for communal grazing of livestock. During the study period (July 2011 to February 2012), pasture samples were collected from selected sites of different districts(Balaghat, Narsinghpur and Chhindwara) of Madhya Pradesh at monthly intervals. The infective larvae were identified and counted using standard protocol. The infective larvae obtained from the pasture were Haemonchus spp, Oesophagostomum spp. and Trichostrongylus spp. The highest (1663) larvae were found in the month of August (coincides with rainy season) and lowest (260) in the month of February (coincides with winter season).
