Prevalence of Hohorstiella rampurensis on Indian Ring Dove (Streptopelia decaocto decaocto) (Columbiformes : Columbidae)

Indian ring dove is known to harbor seven species of lice (Campanulotes bidentatus compare, Coloceras piageti, Coloceras sofloticus, Columbicola columbae, Columbicola confussimus, Hohorstiella modesta, Turturicola salimalii) (Lakshminarayana, 1979). Price et al., (2003) recognizes the presence of only two species {Bonomiella concii Eichler, 1947 and Hohorstiella modesta Ansari, 1951) on the aforesaid bird. However, recently another species of Hohorstiella (H. rampurensis) was recorded from Indian ring dove in 2008. Since then, 45 more birds were examined to record the prevalence, intensity of infestation and range of infestation of aforesaid lice on Indian ring doves. Furthermore, information regarding its feeding and breeding habits has been supplemented.
