Cytopathic effect of indigenous Goatpox virus in vero cell lines.

In this study, attempts were made to adapt the Goat pox virus in Vero cell line. Four isolates (TPT, ANT, KDP, and CHI) were used in the study. Results after cultivating the isolates showed that all the isolates were well adapted and produced characteristic cytopathic effect (CPE) on vero cell lines, by producing refractileness at 24 h post inoculation, granulation by 48 h and cells showed rounding and clumping which was intensified until the 120th hour. Moreover, the pattern of cytopathic effect in vero cells revealed that the CPE was 100% up ton the 15th passage level, then there is a gradual decrease from 80% to 60% from the 16 to 27TH passage levels respectively. The results also suggests the possible attenuation of the virus which could be used in the preparation of attenuated vaccines.
