A study was conducted during 2005-07 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India, to study the influence of canopy pruning on growth and productivity of intercrops in agrosilviculture system. The growth (height, dbh and canopy spread) of Albizia procera was significantly higher in control (unpruned) than 50 and 70% canopy pruning. The grain yield of green gram and wheat was very poor due to continuous drought from 2004 to 2007 in the region. However the pattern of growth, yield and yield attributes of intercrops (green gram and wheat) obtained under different pruning regimes indicates that 70% canopy pruning significantly had higher values of growth, yield and yield attributes than 50% canopy pruning and control (unpruned). The grain yield of green gram (65.9 kg/ha) and wheat (1092.6 kg/ha) was 158 and 141% higher, respectively, in 70% canopy pruning than unpruned tree (25.5 kg/ha green gram and 453.6 kg/ha wheat).
