For 30 years UK growers have relied heavily upon Elsanta and, more recently, Sonata as the standard short-day orJune-bearing strawberry varieties. A great many new varieties and selections from a range of different breeding programmes have complemented Elsanta throughout these years, such as Pandora, Pegasus, Eros, Darselect, Symphony, Sonata and Florence, but not one of these has actually replaced Elsanta or Sonata as the primary June-bearers around which growers build their production volumes.
