Novel solutions at Dutch Berry and Soft Fruit Day

Anovel blueberry harvester and an equally innovative orchard frost protection device headed the new machinery developments at the recent Dutch Berry and Soft Fruit day, writes Steven Vale. There was also news about the Spotted Wing Drosophila and Raspberry Cane Midge. The event was held at Kleinfruitboerderij (small fruit farm) near Dodewaard in the Betuwe fruit growing area of the Netherlands, a 3ha fruit farm run by Gerwin and Jessica van Maanen growingmainly redcurrants and raspberries. Organised by DLV Plant, NFO and PPO Randwijk, the event provided a platform for entomologist Herman Helsen of Applied Plant Science (PPO) to outline new non-chemical work to control Resseliella theobaldi (Raspberry Cane Midge).
