Environmental Pollution due to Coal Mining and Remedial Measures

Earth's crust has been extracted for many mineral resources for the purpose of society and economic development.The economy of any country depends on the mineral potentiality of the country. Coal is one of the most vital andimportant mineral for energy as well as domestic purposes. Coal is one of the chief mineral fuels and is aprimary source and principal source of energy and heat. It is the backbone of the industry and is by far the mostimportant. It is necessary for the welfare and prosperity of man and society. In the extraction of minerals as we gofor mining, this mining causes the environmental pollution directly and indirectly also.Coal mining, particularly surface mining, requires large areas of land to be temporarily disturbed This raises anumber of environmental challenges, including soil erosion, dumping of overburden, coal dust, chemicals inblasting, effects of water table and mine transportation, dust, noise and water pollution, and impacts the localbiodiversity. Steps are taken in modern mining operations to minimise impacts on all aspects of theenvironment.By carefully planning projects, implementing pollution control measures, monitoring the effects of mining andrehabilitating mined areas, the coal industry minimises the impact of its activities on the neighbouring community,the immediate environment and on long-term land capability. All these factors lead to import environmentalpollution and makes harmful environment for human life to promote the Lung Diseases and T.B. The causes ofenvironmental pollution in coal mining and remedial measures to protect the environment and sustainabledevelopment are presented in the paper.
