Waku of Ube Industry and his research associates have created a dream ceramic material that is heat-resistant, called "melt growth composite." This heat-resistant ceramic is totally different from conventional ceramics in basic characteristics. Such revolutionary ceramics are being developed by two groups. These two groups have been working on their development work from totally different approaches from conventional ones. This is considered one of the reasons why the recent success has been achieved. A ceramic, in essence, is considered to have been created in the past by sintering its starting materials. One of the new ceramics being developed is essentially based on a conventional sintering method, but is based on an effort to re-create its crystalline structure from a mesoscopic standpoint. As a result, an MGC is based rather on melting than on sinter, as its name clearly indicates. So this ceramic is created by a method of solidifying its starting materials.
