Japanese computer manufacturers have begun to adopt new strategy in order to survive in 21st century. Hitachi Ltd. has begun to change its universal computer development strategy. The company, different from Fujitsu, adopted IBM friendly policy recently. It decided to buy complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) CPU from IBM abandoning original development of CMOS CPU by itself, while it continued development of bipolar CPU. With such strategy Hitachi developed CMOS bipolar integrated universal computer to compete with IBM's universal computer. The strategy was successful. In the U.S.A. merger and acquisition were promoted energetically and new companies acquired other companies had to integrated their computer systems. Hitachi's bipolar CMOS integrated universal computer supported integration of these integration of computer system so that Skyline of Hitachi was sold favorably. IBM concluded not to supply CMOS CPU for Hitachi in order to protect IBM's interests and Hitachi has to develop CMOS CPU by itself. Although Hitachi bought CMOS CPU from IBM it was developing CMOS CPU for supercomputers SR8000. It has developed copper wiring technology, precision processing, so that CMOS CPU manufacturing technology caught up with CMOS technology developed by IBM.
