Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Hitachi Limited announced on May 23 an alliance to promote businesses in various areas including so-called white appliances (refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, etc) and information services. Matsushita President Nakamura expressed his intention to market jointly developed products such as digital home appliances in 2003 and environment-friendly home appliances in 2004. The presidents of the two companies told further that they are willing to enlarge the area of collaboration to the co-development of system LSI.
