Precision and Style: The Work of Peter Hromek

Peter Hromek (Photo. 1), who will be at the 2010 Australian Woodturning Symposium next July, was born in the Czech Republic in 1947, then emigrated to Germany in 1969. He came to woodturning in his forties, having trained in Germany as a mechanical engineer. 1 wasn't very motivated at school, but my work as a precision mechanic required meticulous skill and it was great fun', he says. 'But it wasn't until years later that 1 realised that being meticulous was my talent and vocation'. This is easy to believe when you look at the seedpod-like forms (Photos.3-10) with which he's associated.
