Loading capacity at Shakhtersk Port at Sakhalin will be raised after this spring. A subsidiary to Shakhalinugol operates the port. Shakhalinugol plans to start using a floating crane from this coming spring in order to reduce the days required for loading coal. The seafloor around the port is not deep enough, which only allows coal carriers with 5,000 dwt or smaller to be loaded at the berth. Ships larger are required stay anchored off shore to receive coal from coal barges.
