It is recognised that preparation of test specimens is a critical step in the evaluation of physical-mechanical properties of polymers. Taking this into account, a new revision of the international standard method for injection moulding of test specimens is being prepared in ISO. Repeatability and reproducibility of test results are to be checked in order to assess the validity of the method, and to that purpose a Round Robin Test on a set of styrenic materials was carried out in CEN/TC249/SC1/WG9. Five European companies agreed to participate. Despite large differences in moulds and moulding conditions the results, here reported, are in good agreement, particularly when specimens moulded in different laboratories were tested in a single laboratory. Reproducibility of the proposed specimen preparation method appears therefore not to be worse than that of the conventional impact and tensile testing procedures. [References: 6]
