The rat has suffered mightily in the quest to mitigate spermatic cord torsion in man, and experiments that would translate usefully to the human condition have gotten increasingly sophisticated. The key issues seem to relate to the ischemia-reperfusion injury and the mystery of contralateral damage to spermatogenesis.
