In 2007, Render and Gozzi1 published their pilot study analyzing the anatomic effects of placing a transobturator tape in cadavers, as well as its clinical efficacy in a small cohort of men with postprostatectomy incontinence (PPI). The hypothesis for the transobturator tape is that relocating the membranous ure-thra into a more proximal position, without disturbing the sphincter mechanism, would improve continence. The cadaveric group in their study demonstrated an increase in the membranous urethral length. In the present study, the cure rate at 6 weeks was 40%, with an additional 30% improvement for patients.
