FBA reports 30% increase in recyclable alternatives to wax corrugated in 2010

A new study by the Fibre Box Assn (FBA) shows a 30% increase in the use of recyclable alternatives to waxed corrugated in 2010. Last year, the corrugated industry shipped 6.4 billion ft~2 of boxes using recyclable wax alternative coatings -- 30.6% more than the 4.9 billion ft~2 shipped in 2009 and 385% more than when first measured in 2002 -- and dramatically increasing the volume of containers that could be recycled. The FBA claims progress has been made in replacing all types of wax treated boxes (cascaded, impregnated, curtain-coated) with recyclable treated boxes. Thirty eight recyclable wax alternatives passed FBA certification testing for repulp-ability as of July.
