SCA is seeking permission from the planning and environmental authorities to expand the capacity of its Ortviken mill in Sundsvall,on the northeast coast of Sweden.Under the scheme,the firm would replace the site's 125,000 tonne/yr newsprint PM 2 with a modern unit.It is not yet clear if the new machine would also manufacture newsprint.The investment would be the first step toward raising the plant's total paper capacity from 800,000 tonnes/yr to over 1 million tonnes/yr.PM 2 was installed at the site in 1958 and is Europe's oldest functioning newsprint machine,according to SCA.
