Blechnum palmiforme (Fig. 1) is as evocative of Gough Island as the thistle is of Scotland. The island is part of the United Kingdom Dependent Territory of Tristan da Cunha, which includes Tristan as the main island of the group, together with the uninhabited islands of Inaccessible and Nightingale. Gough has permanent habitation of about 6 people at its weather station which is run from South Africa (since 1956). Amazingly on the web, one can get information about the daily weather on Gough as wellas a forecast.
